Lumps and Bumps Surgery
How is Surgery Performed?
Your surgeon determines the type of surgery based on the diagnosis. When it is necessary to send a tissue sample to pathology, the lump is excised (cut out) under a local or general anaesthetic. The disadvantage of this method is that it often leaves a scar.
What to Expect During Surgery?
- You will either have a local or general anaesthetic.
- If using the excision method, your surgeon will choose the best possible location and technique to avoid scarring.
- Hair may need to be shaved
What to Expect After Surgery?
- If you had a local anaesthetic, you can usually go home the same day. A general anaesthetic may mean a hospital stay.
- You may need painkillers for a few days after the procedure.
- Driving may be temporarily
- You may need to have stitches removed once the wound heals.
- Avoid strenuous activity that may damage the wound site.
Possible Complications
Although uncommon, possible complications include:
- Swelling or bruising.
- Infection of the wound.
- Numb patches of skin around the wound (usually temporary).
- Sutures that fail to keep the wound closed.
- Bleeding or weeping wound.
