As endocrine surgeons, we have special expertise and training in operations on a number of the endocrine glands. Our area of interest includes the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
We work closely with our medical colleagues, Endocrinologists, to manage the diagnosis, treatment and long term follow up of endocrine disorders.
Surgery
The thyroid gland
The thyroid gland is bow-tie like organ located just below the Adam’s apple, wraps around the windpipe. The main function is to convert iodine from the diet into the thyroid hormone. This hormone controls our body’s metabolism including temperature, heart rate, body weight, mental state and growth.
The parathyroid glands
The parathyroid glands are small glands that are intimately located to the back of the thyroid gland. The normal parathyroid is no larger than a grain of rice. These glands secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH) which regulates the calcium level in our body.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your appointment to register and fill in a health questionnaire.
When you come for your appointment please remember to obtain and bring the following:
- Referral letter from your GP or other health specialist
- Medicare card, DVA card
- Have your private hospital insurance information with you
- Copies of results, X-rays, MRI’s, CT scans etc and any other relevant information
Accounts
Payment for all consultations is required on the day of appointment.

Breast Surgery
Dr Tsan is a specialist breast and oncoplastic surgeon who is passionate and experienced in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all benign and malignant conditions of breast. He has a special interest in oncoplastic breast surgery, aimed at optimising cosmesis following breast conservation surgery. He works with a team of breast reconstructive surgeons to perform nipple-sparing mastectomy and reconstruction, both for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Hernia Surgery
At Cleeland Specialist Centre, one of our areas of particular expertise is hernia surgery (both open and laparoscopic) for which advanced training has been carried out. Common abdominal hernias we see and treat include umbilical, paraumbilical, epigastric and incisional hernias as well as inguinal and femoral hernias.
